Our History

Rock Solid Christian Assembly was known as Full Gospel Assembly in its beginning. Later the name was changed to First Assembly of God, then to Harbor Calvary Church and finally to Rock Solid Christian Assembly.  We call it "Rock Solid."  The church began in 1934, with Wesley Kelsey as pastor. They met in a building on Elberon Street and later moved to the 400 block on 9^th Street. In 1952 a realtor put Pastor Salzman (who was the senior pastor) in touch with the large brick building at 867 W. 10^th Street, but it looked so impossible for their use that they turned down an offer to trade for their building. Eventually, after praying for guidance, God began to deal with brother Salzman about the large, empty, much-in-need-of-repair building on 10^th Street. God began to tell him that with His guidance and blessings it could be made into a suitable building for the congregation. In 1952 the building became the congregation’s. The church was on the move.

Over the years our church has shared in a deep Pentecostal heritage and has housed many great ministers. Some of which have been Warren Hill, Ralph Salzman, Gary Archer, Robert Armstrong, Harold Fuller, Earnest Camery, James Pearson, and many others. While our church has existed for nearly 70+ years, we have new vision and new excitement about our future. In 2001, God brought Pastors Brad and Carolyn Kuechler to San Pedro to be our senior pastors. With their call to our congregation they have also brought a fresh touch of God’s presence to us as well as great vision for our future. Come and experience a church, who after 70 years, is still on the move!

Today Rock Solid has a unique contemporary youthful feel as Pastor Brad has led this fast growing church through much needed change.  Rock Solid is a very contemporary church who has a strong emphasis on kids and youth (See Your Kids Section under Passion To Teach For More Details).  Rock Solid has grown to become a dynamic spirit filled church with many great ministries.  Pastor Kuechler is a dynamic preacher who has built a powerful, healthy leadership whose sole purpose is to care for people.  Over the past few years God has allowed us to update the facilities on 10th Street to a very hip contemporary feel to match our unique youthful ministry.  Our vision of reaching one thousand new souls in the next few years has launched Rock Solid into developing a new Media and TV Ministry.  As you explore our web site remember to check out the "Passion To" links to see the various ministries we offer.
